About Us
Rosewood Foundation Guyana is a registered non-profit, volunteer-based animal welfare organization that advocates for the protection of animals through education, rescue and care.
By working with a network of volunteer advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians and other animal advocacy groups, Rosewood Foundation Guyana is able to rescue countless animals every year. We provide these animals with care and temporary homes through our foster providers until we can place them into their permanent homes.
We also serve as a resource to our communities by providing information on pet ownership, our spay/neuter programs and positive behaviour training. We believe that no animal should be mistreated and are working assiduously to prevent uncontrolled breeding of the animal population and to ensure a cruelty-free society for all animals.

Rosewood Foundation Guyana was founded in 2017 by two animal advocates, Donna and Ileana. Their desire to create a safe and loving society for animals served as motivation to embark on the journey of educating the general populace on various animal welfare issues, spaying, neutering, and animal fostering.
The number of persons in the organization soon grew after a few young professionals indicated their interest in partnering in support of its objectives. We believe that collectively we have the experience, diversity and commitment to allow us to grow. While we are mindful of not overextending ourselves, we are looking forward to expanding in the future as resources allow.
A Word From Our Founder
Rosewood Foundation Guyana was founded in 2017 by Donna Lam and Ileana Bonnard after they both learnt of the overwhelming stray animal population and the poor treatment of animals in Guyana.
It began as a simple adoption page on Facebook and just a few years later, the page has grown into the Rosewood Foundation. It has gradually evolved into one of the most recognized and innovative organizations that offers caring solutions to various animal welfare issues in Guyana.

“They said nobody cared and that no one loves animals here. They said starting the Rosewood Foundation was a waste of time because people would never support our mission. We proved them wrong, people do care. There are many animal lovers who felt the same way and as if they were alone.”

After we started Rosewood, several other animal welfare organizations were created. We are all working towards the same goal, If we teach one person to love and respect an animal, we essentially save 100 animals.
Part of our mission is to ensure Guyana becomes a shining example for other nations to follow. A nation where all animals are treated with respect and are valued companions, not property. Through our objective to educate people into being responsible pet owners we will change the way animals are perceived.
I never thought I was bold enough to start an organization. My friend, Ileana told me this; ‘Be the change you wish to see.’ With her guidance, help and sheer determination we made RFG a reality thus creating a nationwide movement. We are determined to have a society that recognizes animals as the sentient beings they are, a society that focuses on animal welfare and one that is devoid of animal cruelty.
We invite you to join us as we continue our journey. Join our mission and be a voice for the voiceless.
