What to Do If You Find a Stray Cat or Dog
Finding a stray cat can be a heart-wrenching experience, especially when you’re unsure how to help. Whether you’ve encountered a kitten in distress or an adult cat wandering aimlessly, knowing what to do if you find a stray cat can make all the difference.
At Rosewood Foundation Guyana, we’re here to guide you on how to assist these vulnerable animals and connect them with loving homes.
Immediate Steps to Take
1
Assess their Condition
Observe them from a safe distance.
Do they look injured, malnourished, or scared? If they are friendly and approachable, you can gently coax them with food and water.
Use caution when handling, as even a tame animal may be frightened.
2
Provide Temporary Care
If you can, bring them into a secure space, such as a garage, a quiet room, or a safe area in your yard.
Offer food, water, and a comfortable blanket or bedding to help them feel calm and secure.
However, we understand that providing temporary care may not always be possible.
If you’re unable to provide long-term care for the stray cat or dog, here’s what to do if you find a stray cat or dog.
